User Guide โ Weights
๐ Graphical Summary
- Green curve (Weights): evolution of the animal's weight in kilograms.
- Blue curve (BC โ Body Condition): evolution of the physical condition on a scale of 1 to 5.
- The left axis represents weight (kg) and the right axis represents body condition (BC).
- The animalโs age appears at the bottom of the chart for context.
๐ Records Table
Each weighing is stored in a table with the following information:
- Date: day the weighing was performed.
- Age: exact age of the animal at the time of recording.
- Weight (Kg): recorded value.
- BC (Body Condition Score): body score (1 to 5).
- Physical condition: qualitative description associated with BCS (e.g., thin, moderate, fat).
- GW (Kg): total accumulated weight gain.
- GWD (g): daily weight gain in grams.
- Observations: notes from the technician or producer.
- Created / Updated on: data management dates.
From the table, you can edit or delete records using the corresponding icons.
โ New Weighing Record
Clicking โNew Weighingโ opens the form:
- Weighing date: select the day of the check.
- Birth weight (Kg): completed only once as a historical reference.
- Current weight (Kg): current weighing data.
- Observations: specific notes about condition or management.
-
Body Condition (BCS):
- Visual scale from 1 to 5 with reference images.
- Each range describes:
- Physical weakness.
- Muscle atrophy.
- Visible vertebral column.
- Number of visible ribs.
- Hip bone points.
- Presence of fat on chest, flanks, or udder.
๐ This tool helps to standardize the evaluation and reduce subjectivity.
๐ Usage Recommendations
- Perform weighings periodically (every 30โ60 days).
- Ensure the scale is calibrated for accuracy.
- Use body condition as a complement: an animal may maintain weight but lose condition (e.g., lactation wear).
- Compare individual evolution with herd averages to detect deviations.
