User Guide – Weight Recording
The Weight module allows maintaining a historical record of weight and body condition for all animals on the farm. This information is essential for evaluating nutrition, growth, and preparing cows for reproduction and production.
Overview
- The screen displays all current farm animals available for weight recording.
- You can select the date at the top; this does not reload the page, it only assigns the date to the record being saved.
The table lists:
- Animal ID and name
- Group and batch
- Weight (kg)
- Body Condition Score (BCS)
Data Entry
- Select the date at the top.
- For each animal, enter:
- Weight (kg): value measured on the scale.
- Body Condition Score (BCS): select from the list the visual score from 1 to 5 (including decimals if applicable).
- Once the information is complete, click the Register button to save the data.
Viewing Results
- The records are saved in the individual animal file, within its growth and production history.
- They can also be viewed in reports, integrated into:
- Growth curves by group.
- Body condition evolution.
- Comparisons with nutritional and reproductive targets.
Recommendations
- Maintain periodic weight records for young animals and transition cows to ensure they reach reproductive target weights.
- Evaluate body condition together with weight to detect nutritional issues (e.g., overly thin or overconditioned cows).
- Use the same BCS scale across the farm to avoid subjective variations.
