User Guide – Breed Entry
The Breed screen displays all animals without a defined breed or whose breed information is incomplete. From here, you can register and complete the breed data for each animal, which impacts traceability and genetic analysis of the herd.
Overview
- The table shows animals without a breed.
- It displays:
- Animal ID
- Name
- Age
- Gender
- If the cow has calves, they will be listed under her name.
⚠️ Important: any breed change in the mother will also automatically apply to her calves.
On the right column, you will find the “Add a Breed” button to start the registration.
Registration Options
Clicking Add a Breed opens a form with two ways to enter the breed:
1️⃣ Using Knowledge of Parents
If you know the animal's parent information:
- Select the type of registration:
- Registered in IdeasFarm: search for the sire or dam by name or code within the platform.
- Not registered in IdeasFarm: manually enter the name, code, breed, and purity of the parents.
- 50% of the mother's breed and 50% of the father's breed is automatically assigned.
- IdeasFarm calculates and displays the resulting breed of the animal.
🔄 This calculation is replicated to the calves, maintaining genetic consistency in the database.
2️⃣ Without Knowledge of Parents
If you only know the animal’s breed directly:
- Select the breed from the available breed list.
- Define the purity level (% blood):
- Example: 100%, 75%, 50%, etc.
- The system provides different fractions to match the crossbreeding level.
- Save the information.
⚡ This method is ideal when the full lineage is unknown but the breed of the animal is certain.
Recommendations
- Before modifying the breed of a mother cow, check her calves. Remember that all will inherit the change.
- If you are unsure of the purity, select the closest approximate value based on your knowledge.
- Keeping breed information up to date improves accuracy in:
- Production evaluations.
- Genetic selection.
- Comparative herd reports.
